The boys’ track team finished tied for 10th out of the 45 teams represented at the Bloomington North Regional on Thursday night. Two Eagles punched their tickets to next week’s state finals at Indiana University. Junior Wyatt Sutter broke a 37 year-old school record in the discus, finishing third with a career-best throw of 154-6. The previous record of 152-7.5 had stood since 1986. After throwing a season best by 18 feet at the sectional, Sutter added another 10 feet to that tonight. Senior Chase Austin will make his second consecutive appearance in the finals. Austin finished 2nd in the 1600 with a career-best time of 4:19.02. Austin went out in 63 seconds in the first 400 and used a strong second-half of the race to capture the qualifying position. Austin ran the second half of his race faster than the first. Both Eagles will compete on Friday evening at the State Championship at IU. The Eagles also had two other strong performances on the evening. The 4x8 relay of Rafe Silbaugh, Cord Smith, Case Smith, and Charlie Webb finished 11th in 8:45.96. The Eagles came in seeded 14 of 16 and finished 11th. It was a good effort from all members of the relay. The night was capped off with a scoring performance by the 4x4 relay. Coming in seeded 13 of 16, the Eagles captured the 6th place position with great legs from Silbaugh, Ethan Spiece, Cord Smith, and Austin. The Eagles ran a season-best time of 3:35.14, beating two teams from the 2nd heat to score 3 points.
