Boys' Track Outlasts Columbus East in Dual Meet

It came down to the final two events on Tuesday night in the boys competition between the Eagles and the Columbus East Olympians. Brown County had a strong finish in the 3200 and held on to win 64-62. The night got started with a win for the Eagles in the 4x8. Rafe Silbaugh, Charlie Webb, Case Smith, and Cord Smith took the win in 9:01.17. In the 100, Jacob Finley took second place in 12.34 to earn 3 points for his team. In the 1600, Chase Austin took first in 4:42.35 and Kai Koester ran a 5:11.18 to earn a point for his team in third. The Eagles were able to secure two scoring places in the 400 as Silbaugh took second in 54.94 and fellow senior Ethan Spiece took third in 55.35. Cord Smith had another strong race in the 300 hurdles as he captured third place in 46.14. The 800 was a really good event for the Eagles as they took all three scoring places. Austin won the race in 2:05.96, Case Smith was second in 2:17.15, and Eli Wrightsman clocked a 2:25.87 to take third. Finishing 1st and 2nd in the 3200 proved to be just what the Eagles needed to secure the win. Charlie Webb took the top spot in 11:09.04 and Koester was second in 11:11.66. The field events were very strong for the Eagles on Tuesday. In the throws, the Eagles were able to go 1-2 in the shot put. Wyatt Barnett took first with a 40-2, and Wyatt Sutter was second in 39-11. In the discus, both throwers also hit scoring marks. Sutter was second in 124-6, Barnett was third in 112-2. In the high jump, Case Smith took 1st with a 5-3 and Jesse Hubbard was second in 5-2. Finley came through in the long jump with a season-best performance of 18-2 to take first place. To round out the Eagle’s scoring, Koester was second in the pole vault in 8-6. The Eagles will get a little time off as they prepare for the WIC meet at Northview on May 11.
