Distance qualifiers from the track program traveled to Franklin Central on Friday night to compete in the annual distance showcase that brought together some of the best competition across Indiana and even some from Kentucky and Ohio. The night started off with a season-best performance by the Eagles in the 4x800 meter relay as they posted a time of 8:54.22, placing them 18th in the field. Rafe Silbaugh used an opening 60 second lap to start the relay off with a strong leg in 2:04.5. He handed to Cord Smith, who finished his leg in 2:12.9. Case Smith ran third in 2:17.2, and Charlie Webb anchored the relay in 2:19.4. Hadley Gradolf ran in the first heat of the girls mile. This heat had 22 of the best milers from across the state. Gradolf got out well in a 78 second first lap and positioned herself in the field. She ended up running 5:37.81 for the “true mile” distance of 1609 meters. Gradolf was 16h in her heat. Chase Austin ran in the 3rd heat of the boy’s division mile. Like Gradolf’s heat, this race included some strong competition. Austin got out well and had to maneuver through some traffic for the first couple of laps. At the 800 mark, he was at 2:13.4. Once he found some open air, Austin negative split his second half of the race running a 2:09.7 in route to an 8th place finish in his heat and a “true mile” of 4:23.13. The Eagles will be back in action as a full team on Monday at Bloomington South. The meet is scheduled to start at 5:30.
