Seniors Hadley Gradolf and Chase Austin completed their high school cross country careers Saturday at the IHSAA State Finals in Terre Haute. For Gradolf, this was her fourth appearance in the finals. She is the first student-athlete in Brown County history to qualify for the state meet in each of her four years. This was Austin’s second consecutive appearance at the finals in Terre Haute. Conditions for Saturday’s race were ideal. Temperatures were in the 70’s, and the course had soaked up the little bit of rain from earlier in the week. Both races got out very quickly. Gradolf was at 3:26 at the first k marker. Gradolf ended up in 70th place with a time of 19:39. The boy’s race went out fast as well. Austin positioned himself well as he was in the mid 60’s at the 1k marker in about 2:54. Austin moved up through the field, placing 40th in a time of 16:12. Congratulations to both Hadley and Chase!
