For the second straight year, seniors Hadley Gradolf and Chase Austin will both compete in the IHSAA State Championship this next Saturday in Terre Haute. By punching her ticket to the finals, Gradolf becomes the only Brown County athlete to ever qualify for the state finals in each of her four years of high school. Gradolf ran a tactical race as she did not let the quick pace early take her away from her race plan. She moved up during the race and finished 10th in a time of 18:50. Austin used a similar plan with his race as he refrained from going out too aggressively and chose to move up during the race. Austin also finished 10th in 15:55. The season for the boys team concluded Saturday with an 18th place team finish. Following Austin as the second runner for the Eagles was Case Smith. Smith finished in 85th place with a 17:56. Charlie Webb was 90th in 18:05. Kai Koester ran 4th man for the Eagles as he crossed the line in 18:13. Rafe Silbaugh finished his Eagle cross country career with an 18:43, and Clay Austin ran a 19:29. The State Championship will be contested next Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. The girls race will begin at noon, and the boys will take off at 2:30.
