Cross Country Qualifies for Regional Competition

On Saturday, Brown County hosted the IHSAA Sectional at Eagle Park. It was a good day for the Eagles as they qualified every runner onto the Columbus North Regional next Saturday. Due to facility conflicts, North will host the meet at Shelbyville’s Blue River Park. Senior Hadley Gradolf took 4th place Saturday at the sectional behind a trio of Columbus North runners. Gradolf ran an 18:41. As she enters the tournament, she is looking to be the first Brown County runner to qualify for State each of her four years. Sadie Hiatt and Megan Cumberledge also qualified for the regional meet as individuals. Hiatt was 28th in 22:57 and Cumberledge was 30th in 23:24. On the boys side, the Eagles finished in 3rd and qualified as a team. The Eagles were only one point behind Seymour. Chase Austin was the first Eagle across the line. Austin was 6th in 16:05. Austin was an individual qualifier for last year’s state finals. Cord Smith was the next Eagle across the line, finishing 15th in 17:34. Just behind Cord in 16th and 17th were Case Smith and Rafe Silbaugh. Their times were 17:44 and 17:49 respectively. Finishing out the top 5 for the Eagles was Charlie Webb who finished in 17:54 for 19th place. Clay Austin came across the line in 18:22 and Kai Koester finished in 18:43. The IHSAA Regional will begin at 10:30 Saturday morning in Shelbyville.
