Behind senior Clay Austin's career best score, the Eagles took 7th place in the twelve team IHSAA Boys Golf Sectional at Cascades Golf Course in Bloomington Monday, June 3. Austin's 78 tied for the lowest individual score from a non advancing team and propelled him into the IHSAA Regional set for Thursday, June 6, at Country Oaks Golf Club in Montgomery. Austin went out with a 40 on the Quarry nine at Cascades and came in with a 38 on the Pine Course that included a long par-saving putt on the par 3 #17 and a lengthy birdie putt on the par four finishing hole. The Eagles posted a 362, their best sectional score in the last several years. Jon Kirchhofer and Liam Cassiday each carded a 94, while Wesley Arndt took a 96. Will Hiatt had a 123. "Clay overcame a couple bad shots on the front and felt pretty good about where he stood. He demonstrated great focus, and when his putter got hot on the back, the score took care of itself," said Eagle coach Brad Baughman. "This was our third trip to Cascades this season, and our score improved each time," added Baughman. "Our goal is to be better at the end of the season than we were at the beginning or middle of the season, and we definitely accomplished that goal," Baughman said.
