On Saturday, the cross country teams took their annual trip to the Culver Invitational. The cool temperatures were quite a contrast in comparison to the heat the Eagles experienced Tuesday at the WIC meet at Edgewood. The Eagles took advantage of the ideal conditions and made quite a showing on Saturday. The day was started with a 3rd place finish by senior Hadley Gradolf. Gradolf ran strong from the start and covered the course in 19:21. Megan Cumberledge was the next Eagle across the line. Cumberledge ran a season-best of 22:41, finishing 41st. Sadie Hiatt was the final lady Eagle finisher, placing 58th in 23:35. On the boys side, the Eagles came home with the team title. The Eagles finish 1st out of 29 teams in their division. Rensselaer Central was the 2nd place team, finishing 10 points behind the Eagles. Senior Chase Austin was the individual champion of the race. Austin ran stride for stride with the second place runner but used a push the last K to bring home the title. Cord Smith had a strong showing as he finished 20th in 17:49. Charlie Webb placed 28th in 18:03. Just behind Webb was Case Smith who ran 18:09. Rafe Silbaugh rounded out the top 5 for the Eagles as he finished 36th in 18:22. Other Eagle finishers will be listed below. The Eagles will have a few days off before they run Nike Twilight in Terre Haute next Saturday evening.
