On Saturday, the cross country teams competed in the annual Eagle Classic at Eagle Park. The cool temperatures made for some outstanding performances on the day. The day started with the freshman/sophomore race for the boys. Eli Wrightsman placed 65th in 19:04 and Josh Redmon placed 104th in 20:21. The elite race took the course next for the girls. Several of the state’s top ranked teams competed. Last year’s state champion, Columbus North, took the team championship. Eagle senior, Hadley Gradolf competed very well in the field. Gradolf finished 10th overall in a time of 18:51. In the boys elite, Carmel took the team title and Greyhound Kole Mathison reset his Eagle Park course record in 14:51. Senior Chase Austin represented the Eagles in the elite race. Like Gradolf, Austin took advantage of the great competition and finished 16th in 15:37, using a great last K of the race to move up in the field. In the girls varsity race, the Eagles had two athletes compete. Megan Cumberledge finished 52nd in 23:35 and Livie Austin clocked a time of 24:29 for 71st. On the boys side, the Eagles finished 3rd in the single A race. South Knox took the team title. Cord Smith was the first Eagle across the line. Smith finished 9th overall in 17:45. Charlie Webb came across next in 19th in 18:22. Case Smith and Rafe Silbaugh finished 22nd and 23rd respectively with Smith clocking an 18:29 and Silbaugh finishing in 18:35. Kai Koester was the 5th Eagle across the line in 18:49. Clay Austin ran a 19:08 and Will Hiatt was across the line in 20:41. In the JV race, the Eagles were represented by a complete team of 5 runners. The Eagles finished 19th in the race. Corbin Brahaum finished in 20:20, Aidan Schilling was 20:53, Josh Bowling was 23:14, Carter Condon came across in 23:47, and Elijah LaVere clocked a 24:54. The Eagles will have the week off before they compete in the WIC meet at Edgewood September 20th.
