The boy’s track and field team began their season with two indoor meets earlier in the month at Indiana University. The squad now sets its sights on the outdoor season, which will begin Tuesday, April 2, at Bloomington North. The 2024 boys team consists of 24 student-athletes. Practice began on February 12, and the team has been working to prepare for the coming season. The meet schedule is going to be very similar to last year with many of the meets being at home this season. Senior Wyatt Sutter is the lone state qualifier returning from last season. Sutter threw over 154 feet in the discus to punch his ticket to the finals last season. He will look to increase that mark as he works toward a second state qualifier. Junior Jackson Daugherty brings some more experience to the area, and there are high hopes for Waylon Reeves who was a school record holder in the shot put in middle school. Sophomore Aiden Hadley participated in the shot put in the two indoor meets and continues to give a consistent effort. The distance area has the greatest depth for the team. Senior Corbin Brahaum returns to the team this season and looks very strong early on. Junior Case Smith will again balance some distance events with the high jump. Smith continues to make great strides in the high jump, clearing 5’8 at the end of last season. Senior Charlie Webb will continue to run the longer events for the Eagles and junior Kai Koester and sophomore Eli Wrightsman will give some depth to the distance group along with developing their skills in the pole vault. Robert Webb will also balance some middle distance running with pole vault. Brahaum, Webb, Koester, and Wrightsman all qualified for the Evansville Regional earlier this year in cross country. Freshman Aden Skaggs also qualified for the regional in cross country and will look to carry that over into track. Also making contributions to the distance group will be Xavier Himebaugh, Joel Murphy, and Josh Bowling. Landon Scott returns as one of the sprinters who made contributions from the 100 to the 400 last year. Senior Eli Webb brings his leadership to the sprint area also having a range between the 100 and 400. Senior Carter Condon has moved from the middle distance group to the long sprints and will focus on the 400. Elijah LaVere will train with the middle distance but focus a lot on the 400. Victor Moreno-Morillo and Ethan Williams have been spending time working the hurdles and look to add depth there. Billy Hubbard has joined the sprint groups and will look to make immediate contributions, and Jesse Hubbard will balance running the 400 with continuing to make his impact in the high jump. Cole Wright joins the team this year and has shown great strides in the work he is doing with the long jump. Cody Webb returns to help the coaches as team manager. The team is focused on improving each meet and seeing where that puts them at the end of the season.
