Introduction to Track and Field: The Sport with Something for Everyone By Victor Moreno Morillo – Here at Brown County High School, we have the sport of Track and Field, one that could be considered the most individual team sport there is. And that just might be the reason you start wanting to practice it. Let me tell you why. Track and Field is a sport that contains a wide variety of athletic events, such as: short distance running, long distance running, jumping, throwing, and pole vaulting. But, aside from each of these, there are further categories depending on what a person wants to specialize in (for example hurdles and relays). So, my point is, Track and Field is a sport that has something for everyone. You might not like running, but you may enjoy throwing discus. Maybe you do enjoy running, but only short distances. Chances are you will really like at least one of the events we have. If you don’t fall head over heels with any of them, you don’t have to join the team, no one will force you. Just, don’t forget to try new things, it’s always fun and it keeps your body and mind in shape. If you are ever interested in trying, find us at the Track at around 3:30 after school, or go to Mr. Wrightsman room next to the library.
