Cross Country Competes in BCXC Challenge and BC Harrier Classic

The boys and girls cross country team finished up their first week of action with two home meets at Eagle Park. On Wednesday, the Eagles hosted their annual BCXC Challenge. This unique event partners two runners together with each running a 2500 meter segment of the course. On the girls side, Hadley Gradolf and Sadie Hiatt were paired together and finished 8th overall in a time of 20:14. Livie Austin and Megan Cumberledge finished 18th and covered the course in 23:06. The girls did not have a team score with only two pairings. The boys finished 3rd out of 7 on the day. Chase Austin partnered with Cord Smith to finish 2nd overall in 15:53. The next pairing for the Eagles was Rafe Silbaugh and Charlie Webb. The two finished 15th overall in 17:22. Other finishers are listed below. On Saturday, Brown County hosted the first Brown County Harrier Classic. The highly competitive meet was the first opportunity for the Eagles to race at the 5k distance. Gradolf got the day started off well for the Eagles as she finished 5th in 19:24. Competing in her first 5k, Hiatt placed 47th in 23:11. Also competing in her first 5k, Cumberledge covered the course in 24:10 and Livie Austin finished in 25:25. For the boys, the team placed 6th in a very tough field. Chase Austin captured the individual title. He used a strong last K to capture the win in 16:10. Cord Smith ran his career best as he finished 21st in a 17:45. Webb was the third finisher for the Eagles, finishing 32nd overall in 18:26. Silbaugh finished right behind Webb in 18:27, and Case Smith rounded out the Eagles top 5 in 18:47. Both the boys and girls and boys will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Franklin Community for another competitive invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 8:30.
