Golfers Finish 7th in IHSAA Sectional

Today's article is written in the first person from Brown County coach Brad Baughman. We competed in a very tough, thirteen-team sectional field Monday at Cascades Golf Course in Bloomington, posted our second lowest round of the season, a 351, and came away with a 7th place finish. Four of our five golfers were playing in their first sectional; Junior Colbie VanZuiden was the only golfer who competed in the event last season. Considering that level of inexperience, I thought we played a very solid round of golf, and I was extremely proud of how our players competed. Colbie led us with an 84, while sophomore Parker Arndt was just one stroke back of him with an 85. The freshman duo of Carter Hawley and Rilan Purlee turned in a 90 and 92 respectively, and sophomore Finn Silbaugh finished with a 99. With these five returning next season, along with some talented young golfers who were unable to crack the sectional lineup, the future bodes well for us. Just how successful we can be the next couple of years depends on how hard they work over the summer to improve their games. We are definitely trending in the right direction. We were a significantly better team at the end of the season than we were in early May, and that is what we always strive for - improvement. No BCHS golf team has ever won a Sectional, and only one team has ever placed in the top three in a Sectional to earn a berth in the Regional. Our Sectional is loaded with quality teams, but our goal of claiming a Sectional title never wavers. Special thanks to Assistant Coach Greg Taggart, and of course to our great group of parents! Your support is always felt and greatly appreciated. Sectional Results: Brownstown Central 301; Bloomington South 308; Bloomington North 309; Bedford Norht Lawrence 316; Edgewood 320; Seymour 333; Brown County 351; Salem 352; Owen Valley 361; West Washington 367; Trinity Lutheran 374; Mitchell 414; and Lighthouse Christian 455.
