A trip to Stone Crest Golf Community in Bedford for a match with Eastern Greene proved to be just what the Brown County girls golf team needed. The Eagles, playing their third match in three days, fired a 206, 32 strokes better than their score the previous day, to defeat the host T-Birds who shot a 211. Three of the five Eagle golfers recorded season best rounds.Sophomore Lilly VanNess found a good playing rhythm and captured co-medalist honors with a 45, her low score of the young season. Senior Hannah deWeerdt carded a 49, while freshman Ava Stogsdill posted her best score of the season with a 55. Junior Savannah Poling contributed a 57, and freshman Chloe Poling took a 60 for her best score of the season. "I expected our scores would be better than they had been, but a 32 stroke improvement was truly a pleasant surprise," said co-coach Brad Baughman. "It was really nice to see Lilly settle in and hit some quality shots, and our two freshmen, playing in only their fourth match, hit some impressive shots," Baughman added. The Eagles jump right back into action Saturday when they travel to Otter Creek Golf Course to compete in the Columbus East Invitational. Participating teams this year are Bedford N. Lawrence, Beech Grove, Bloomington South, Brown County, Columbus East, Columbus North, Edinburgh, Franklin Central, Greenwood Christian, Jasper, Jeffersonville, and Lawrence Central. Teams tee off at 1:30 P.M.
