The girls golf team closed out the regular season Wednesday, September 16, with a win over the visiting Edinburgh Lancers, 216-225.
The Eagles #1 player, Ainslie Winton, fired a 47 to share medalist honors with Edinburgh’s #1 player, Morgan Calhoun. “The fact that Ainslie was able to neutralize Morgan’s score was pivotal in our performance because our other four scores came in a bit above where they normally are,” said co-coach Brad Baughman.
Abby Padgett and Avery Patterson each posted a 56, while Annika Evenson and Christy Sebastian carded a 57 and 58 respectively. The Eagles two freshmen recorded their best scores of the season, Savannah Poling with a 62 and Ava Padgett with a 63. Mattie Satter carded a 66.
The golfers will now focus on preparing for the IHSAA sectional at Cascades Golf Course in Bloomington on Monday, September 21. Two new opponents have been added to the sectional field this season, Columbus East and Columbus North, the 7th ranked team in the state. Last season, the Eagles finished fourth, narrowly missing a Regional berth by a handful of strokes.
The Eagles will play in twosomes with Edgewood High School, and their first tee time is 9:20 going off the Ridge nine.
