With ideal playing condtions and a favorable course set-up, the Brown County High School girls’ golf team posted a 419 and grabbed the fifth spot in Saturday’s WIC championships played at Forest Park Golf Course in Brazil.
Junior Annika Evenson finished 10th in the event with a 97 to lead the Eagles and earned All-Conference honors. While no other Eagle broke the “100” barrier, the scores were tightly bunched. Also scoring for the Eagles were Abby Padgett with a 106, Christy Sebastian with a 107, and Avery Patterson with a 109. Ainslie Winton turned in a 110.
The host Northview Knights won the event with a 378. The Knights’ Brooklee Bussing shot an 80 to take medalist honors.
“We had two girls in the 40’s for the first time this season. Evenson and Sebastian each carded a 46 on the front side, and our team score on the front was a 197, forty strokes better than our nine hole average. That is definitely encouraging,” said co-coach Brad Baughman.
The Eagles host Jennings County Tuesday, September 1, at 5:30, and then entertain Eastern Greene the very next day at 5:00.
