The eagles placed 2 individuals in Nolan Patterson at #2 singles and Reid Davis at #3 singles and 2 teams, #1 doubles team of Spencer Blee and Noah Cochran and Aidan Burt and Eli Sichting at #2 doubles into the championship matches of the Steve Makurat Invitational. As the defending champions, this was a great place for the eagles. Steve Makurat Invitational rival and eventual 2020 champion Brownstown Central also placed 2 individuals and 2 teams in the championship round. It came down to the head to head matchups at #2 singles, #3 singles and #2 doubles as each of the other positions, Brownstown’s Ethan Isaacs dominated at #1 singles as did the eagles duo of Spencer Blee and Noah Coahran at #1 doubles. With the eagles only winning one of the three, a two point victory and invitational championship went to the Braves. Josh Miller came back from a loss in round one to help the eagles score a point with a consolation point. Josh showed real maturity in coming back to win after an emotionally charged loss in round one. Reid Davis was his usual self with consistency and placement taking two easy victories on the day. Doubles specialists Spencer and Noah rebounded from a tough loss at BNL to play the best tennis of the day for the eagles, their combination of a dominating net game and serves were really unstoppable. They really played some elevated tennis today. I expect this to carry over into next week as the eagles will host three matches next week starting with Trion Central on Tuesday and completing their week on Thursday as they host WIC for Owen Valley with the olympians of Columbus East in the middle. The JV eagles also got to play a lot of matches today, this is great for the young eagles as they will be carrying the expectations of Brown County tennis next year and into the future. The eagles will enjoy the much needed rest the rest of the weekend brings. Once again, we are extremely fortunate to be playing the game we love.
