Although we came up a few strokes short of grabbing our first victory, there was reason to celebrate our performance at Timbergate Golf Course on Thursday, April 29.
First, we recorded our lowest score of the season, and second, we knocked 18 strokes off the round we had on the same course just three days earlier in our match with Edinburgh.
Cooper VanNess posted a 42, his best score of the season, to claim medalist honors. Jordan Burnett also fired his lowest round of the year with a 60. Clay Austin took a 60 as well, while Bradley Arndt finished with a 62 and Dylan Taylor scored a 69.
It was so nice to see Cooper have a solid round. His ball striking was consistent, as was his short game. Plus, he was able to avoid the big numbers that hurt him on Monday.
Clay, Jordan, and Bradley are on the cusp of breaking the 60 barrier, and when they do, we will see our team scores drop some more.
We have a long way to go, but we made positive strides in this match, We just need to keep improving and not be satisfied with where we are.
We are scheduled to be home next week on Monday with Owen Valley and Wednesday with Mitchell. It would be very gratifying if we could post a couple of decent scores on our home course.
