The eagles season came to an end tonight at the hands of the #3 state ranked Columbus North bulldogs. The eagles fought valiantly at every position but were just beaten by one of the best teams in the state. I can say that this is one of, if not the best North team that I have ever competed against.
#1 Singles player senior Aaron McCann playing in his last match as an eagle fought for every single point and was beaten by the best player in the area. Aaron completes a remarkable career that saw the eagles finish second, eighth, fourth, and second in the WIC conference. He was a major factor in bringing the eagles back to where they should be in the conference. As the team’s captain and leader he will be missed greatly. He leaves a great legacy as a player, but the reins are now turned over to the five juniors (Aiden Burt, Noah Cochran, Spencer Blee, Reid Davis, and Nolan Patterson), three sophomores (Josh Miller, Austen Deckard, and Eli Sichting) and freshman (Daylen Dees). The returning players will continue to uphold the strong tradition of tennis in Brown County. I fully expect that this team will as competitive and hungry to repeat as on of the best in the WIC conference and once again be up to the challenge of facing any opponent. The best is yet to come with this team and I am already looking forward to June when we can work out as a team and continue what this team has started. As badly as the season ended for the eagles, it was a season of record setting proportion to win 20 matches in a season is an incredible feat. As always I am most proud of the character of this team, These are just simply a great group of fine young men and I am honored to be their coach.
Record 20-3 (7-1 WIC – Second Place)
