The eagles faced the eagles of South Putnam at home on Saturday and were defeated in a close match 2-3. The eagles had a chance to secure a victory as #2 singles player Josh Miller and the #1 doubles team of Noah Cochran and Spencer Blee both won their matches easily. Playing a different line up due unforeseen circumstances, the eagles had a new #3 singles player in freshman Jack Sichting and filling in a spot on the #2 doubles team was junior Austen Deckard. Although both positions played well, they just couldn’t overcome their opponents. The final point came down to the #1 singles match. Nolan Patterson played well, but just missed out on a few points and came up short on a victory. This was an opportunity to play for outright third place in the WIC conference. I feel like we had our chances early in the match but South Putnam just was a bit better. We will not make excuses, we put our best team available on the courts and as like all of our players and matches, we competed.

Brandon had a great day with a #3 singles win in the jv matches and returning after a year and half off, John Oliver played his first match of the season. As with every match, our jv players got more match experience and I keep seeing improvement in their games.

The eagles have a busy week in a half as they play 6 matches over the next 11 days. The good thing is that they are home or at our home away from home, Edgewood. Next match is Monday against another WIC opponent, Greencastle and then Tuesday, the eagles complete their WIC schedule as they play Sullivan.
