Maddy Fields capped off a great year by being named The Herald-Times Field Athlete of the Year. The girls team had four members recognized on the all-area team**.
First Team All-Area
Maddy Fields: “H-T’s Field Athlete of the Year, excelled in pole vault while competing at a high level in the 400 and running in the 1600 meter relay. Topping out at 11-0 to win the sectional title, was a regional runner-up before taking eighth at the state finals (11-0), WIC champ in pole vault while taking 5th in the 400 (1:03.89) and running legs for the 1600 and 3200 relays. Second team last year. Will vault at Indiana State.”
Second Team All-Area
Kathleen McCann: “Four-event speedster was a sectional champ in the 200 and third in the 100 and anchor for the 400 relay that was sectional champs (50.90), but was fourth at regional, and member of the 1600 relay that was fourth at regional. WIC runner-up in both sprints and had season best times of 12.64 and 26.26. Third time on second team.”
Elly Wertz: “One of two long jumpers to go 17 feet this season, was WIC champ and sectional runner-up. Top four in the 100 (13.14) and 200 (27.34) at WIC’s, was second at sectional in the 100. Held down leg for the 400 relay that won sectional title and also in the 1600 relay at sectional and regional. Repeat second-teamer.”
